Angle Ball Joint SAE J490 / Type G / Style 4

F-Series high strength ball joints are typically assembled to the end of a rod, pipe, tube or cable linkage to provide misalignment between two moving points. Design per SAE J490 Type G Style 4. These ball joints is ideal for severe wear conditions and is also resistant to vibration and high shock loading. Available in both metric and imperial thread sizes. Neoprene gaiter helps resist dirt contamination. If gaiter is not required please remove the letter S from the part number.

Inner retaining ring Hard drawn spring steel to SAE1070 or equivalent

Designations and Options
  • Gaiter( also named Grommet or Dust shield or dust boot (add  suffix “S” before the size, ie FS375).
  • Left hand threads (add suffix  “L” before the size, ie FSL375).
  • Custom ball joint: according to customer drawings
Thread Class

Unified Standard Class 2A external threads and Class 2B internal threads shall apply to plain finish (unplated) parts. For externally components with additive finish, the maximum diameters of Class 2A may be exceeded by the amount of the allowance.; that is, the basic diameters (Class 2A maximum diameters plus the allowance) apply to an externally threaded part after plating. For internally threaded components with additive finish, the Class 2B diameters apply after plating. See ANSI B 1.1.

External threads shall be chamfered to a diameter 0.01 in (0.3mm) less than the minor diameter to produce a length of chamfered or partial thread to 3/4 to 1-1/4 times to the pitch (rounded to a three-place decimal).

Internal threads shall be countersunk 90 degree included angle to a diameter 0.01 in (0.3mm) greater more than the major diameter of the thread (rounded to a two-place decima).

Finishes

Unless otherwise specified, carbon steel ball joints shall be furnished with cadmium or zinc protective finish and shall meet the requirements of 32 h salt spray test in  accordance with ASTM B 117, Method of Slat Spray (Fog) Testing.  At manufacture’s option, a subsequent chromated treatment may be used. Plated, hardened carbon steel components of ball joints (subject to hydrogen embrittlement) shall be baked or otherwise processed to obviate such embrittlement.

Lubrication

Unless otherwise specified by user, ball joints shall be supplied with ball sockets suitably lubricated in accordance with manufacture’s practice.

Workmanship

Ball joints must be free burrs, loose scale, sharp edges, and any other defect which might affect their serviceability.
